JS-Why is it important?

Let me guess, you want to know first and foremost what JS stands for?,
and so I will, but before that I will start with a personal experience...

Just a day back Senthiyl, Sok's and myself met up with a two different individuals whom were very keen in Arbinger's work on what we do & what we stand for. One thing that followed almost immediately after this conversation was mainly "Wow it would be so COOL to be working with you guys... unlike my present job!"

Yet another incident today when we had Tyrone, a supplier came in saying how he feels if he could join us in what we do... " how I wish I could enjoy my job they way you guys do!"

In both situations,  although what transpires to me was the nice compliments, what set me writing this blog was on the concept behind- not being happy in one's job and who better than-- Egor has much to say about JS. <- do see the link

Motivation and Commitment

What contributes to JS? A great high-paying salary? Continuous tools of improving quality of supervision? fulfillment of interests? decentralization of power? Relationships in the organization?

How do the non-profit organizations consists of such driven and committed staff and still go through the challenges any organization faces?

How does Arbinger do it?

I think job satisfaction has a huge impact on the many organizations and its affecting people worldwide. And Yes, I'm referring to job satisfaction- JS and how is it so valuable that we often disregard it. Egor's example shows how as individuals when we know something is wrong-- such as unsatisfied with our job perspectives, tend to be less committed to their organization?  and eventually cause them to leave their jobs?

But how far is being open about JS valued in an organization is my second question.... maybe lets leave that to ponder over...

Job satisfaction and retention of employees is something that is so important in the different areas in which organizations work on in order to understand information regarding their employees’ attitudes, feelings and behaviors. In that, organization are empowered in many ways for example, as a result, organizations are able to troubleshoot problems and issues before the situation worsen. As such, job satisfaction which is a construct that is subliminally associated to common characteristics of employee attitudes and behaviors, enables organization in making appropriate decisions in their planning and running of their organization.

Knowing why I strongly feel that understanding why my work colleagues do what they do at work and to knowing how I can positively impact their behaviors and actions, employing  ‘out of the box’ strategies creates a positive and conducive environment to work.

Teamwork Means?

Teamwork at work, schools and even as a family are designed and developed by the effort of knowledge and understanding of the interlinked relationships that grow from within... Hence it can be said teamwork means a huge deal for many....Especially for me!

I can never imagine a world where there is no teamwork effort?... As such I'm so grateful for my Arbinger team both locally and globally where I see how truly gifted we are as a team and what we stand for.

We are indeed a 'force not to be reckoned with' and I believe that many of our Arbinger members see this from the way we initiate a conversation to how we are with our families and with our friends. I believe that this has got to do alot with the team confidence, strength, trust and accountability facilitated.

Arbinger's language not only mean the deliverance of the concepts itself, but you see when we as a team of Arbinger work together, honor our senses as part of team and live by the balance of what Cossie has mentioned in his blog here. So 3 Cheers to us for being a great Team... Arbinger's Team!

Sharing with you the ArbingBird Animation Clip on IN-the-BOX moments whilst working with people-

(Do comment on your opinions over your first thoughts about what the animation-- Working with People means for you? Kindly share at this link-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZkXWl_ItCs)

What can be drawn from the clip is how accountability within teams are so important -- where in Arbinger, accountability is about "how we are" not just on what an output has to offer but, what actually an individual/ or team has to deliver in terms of usefulness as discussed in Mike Merchant -- "Creating an Environment Where Accountability Thrives global call talks about. In Response to Burdens, Challenges & Trials

The importance of compassionate leading suggests a supportive nature of what leadership encompasses. There is always something more than just building a perfect structure within the standard system but also building on what relationships are based UPON.

What exactly do we know about Leadership?

As shown in the Animation on reaching out to goals... it is assumed that when we come out of the box, we are now able to see how we are performing rather than to what we should be performing which guides leaders to reaching their potentials- internally and externally.

Many Arbinger Members have something common about their Responses:

"I was DEEEEEP in the box, creating trouble for my boss, my co-workers, my workers, my friends and espetialy my family. I was a BLAME -TRAIN!! "Mario Krivokapic

" I was a sales agent pouting because I didn't think I was getting the support, recognition and praise that I thought I deserved.... Timothy Dicks

"I had an army of allies who were supporting, not me but, the worst of me. They were entrenched with me and the lies we told ourselves."Russ Thoman

Jim Ferrell has shared some pondering thoughts:

1.What weakness in me does this situation give me the opportunity to overcome?

2.What does being upset in response to this circumstance teach me about myself?

3.Given my present state of mind, is this situation likely to get better or worse if I say anything right now?

Arbinger's Community is not only a great place and example that fosters leadership and bonding  friendships. Come discuss at:  http://arbingercommunity.ning.com/

Freud, Deception and the Power of How

Freud was an immaculate figure and a psychological acumen. Well-known for all his psychoanalytic wizardry, theories and ideas of extraordinary and some discerning in other ways (unconscious theories in particular). However, one area that Freud had yet to unravel was 'Self- Deception.'

I began to realize the powerful agendas which Freud and many others including myself seem to walk pass across on our daily live.

A Paradox which dominates the the philosophical treatment of bad faith or in some cases -deception about ourselves and others around us which seem as irrelevant to our understandings....

But what if seeing through Self Deception takes organizations, individuals, families and what's more society to break what has become the 'norm'- such as " I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine".

Seeing Through Self-Deception

As I mentioned, although Freud was unable to unravel what became known as the "self-deception paradox," some scholars whom have been wrestling the same issue for over a century soon broke the fundamentals to Deception.

Self-deception is one of the most difficult aspects of being unreal to ourselves and others. This is partly because self-deception always served an often desperate, personal need where we only convince ourselves that a falsehood is true because we desire it to be true for some reason close to our hearts.

This it is mainly because self-deception creates its own invisibility.

But the problem with this is that friends, managers all and always will have their own agendas. Even a 'best friend', for example, may lie to us for reasons of her own -Besides this, everyone is playing the same addictive game and groups of friends or colleagues are a powerful source of false beliefs.

As humans we haven fallen into a few traps that may act as defense mechanisms.  It might be thought that the clue to avoiding self-deception lies in the fact that objectively confirmed self-beliefs are generally more reliable than self-beliefs which rely solely on subjective justifications. For instance, we tend to know what we are doing is wrong yet we blindly and deceivingly provide excuses that gets us out of a situation.

The Leadership and Self-Deception Book recalls a monumental truth on its preface page;  An infant is stuck beneath a furniture and although how hard she tries to cry or bang her head to the sides, she will not be able to be released. Infact what is worse was she started to push more only to find herself trapped for good. You see the problem was that the infant had crawled underneath the furniture in the first place and got stuck. She may even blame the furniture for having being stuck. But looking closer the problem was the infant but she couldn't have seen it. Being the problem, any solution the infant decides to try will hence not work.

In a simple term The Choice that determines Influence just doesn't stop there, as there is always something which goes beyond the blaming, behind the defense mechanisms or the blinding behaviors... it us the Paradox of Deception which reveals a deeper more congruent truth to problem solving on many levels-- expanding the Power of HOW rather than the WHAT!

Two Different Faces

 TWO-FACED: An Insight to People-Problems

Have we noticed how some people may be timid as mouses when talking to customers/clients but fierce as a tiger with their employees?

People have a tendency to divert to two or multiple different tasks, tones, personalities and attitudes. As a very distinct part of human behavior, being two-faced is a description we often use when  someone acts in such a manner that is deceitful or 'Fake'.

We can generally identify a 'Fake' behavior, such as to whether that person really means what he or she really has to say. it could simply taking noticing how an apology may not be sincere. As such even you and me fail in many ways too!  For some this will be failing to see people like as with the same needs and wants.

Dealing with an unpleasant situations can be both common and painful. Among the hundreds of problems faced at work, this is one of the most persistent and harmful causes of job-related stress. When you don't get along with your colleague, manager or client your days in the office feelings of hatred, and what's worse, a 'BURDEN' builds a communication 'shut-down' preventing any effort to reconcile.

Arbinger Concepts discusses the Choice- The Power of How... A choice that each and everyone of us has... The power of spreading the key to: relationships, communication, conflict resolution, individual growth, effective leadership, team-building, motivation, cooperation, accountability, trust, living values in the spirit they were intended, authenticity, focusing on results, alignment, vision creation and buy-in, decision-making and more.

There is nothing in most management literature that touches on this matter. I wonder why this is not a wider topic of discussion. Two face or not, in the path towards a peace at work and heart we must 'honor our sense that hits us in our guts.

People-problems spread wide and far and tackling issues as huge as this one considers a Deeper focus. Arbinger suggests a series of levels which help organizations understand the root to people problems and stem out deeper solutions to these problems affecting growth in leadership.

Quiz For the Deeper Freedom

Inspiration wears many faces. I was taking a train ride back home, the usual crowd in the train began to disperse towards the last few stops. (Mine is the last stop) I was suddenly in conversation with a lady, about her mid 30's who presented me with an unusual but most life-changing Quiz....
Ready to take the Quiz:
1.     Name the 5 wealthiest people in the world.
2.
Name the last 2 winners of the Miss Universe  contest.
3.     Name 3 people who have won the Nobel Prize.
4.     Name the last  5 Oscar Award winners for best actor  or actress.
5.    Name the 5 World Cup winners.
(Were you able to name at least 3/5 of the questions and correctly? Be Truthful)
Lesson learnt:
Although these people are the best in their fields;
   Their applause dies.
   Awards tarnish.
   Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners
By the way I couldn't get past the first Question itself- all I knew was Donald Trump.. then I was blank for the rest of the other Questions.
Now ready for your next Quiz:
1. List 5 Teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name 5 friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3.Name 5 people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4.Think of 5 people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5.Think of 5 people you enjoy spending time with.
 Lesson learnt:
The people who make a difference in your life are not
the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards
.
They are the ones whom share the deeper meaning with you!

My biggest lesson on the train was the understanding of the purpose of this deeper meaning.
2 things that immediately came to thought about the Quiz idea was about being responsive with the Freedom. How amazing was that moment to just feel uplifted, free just to know that you are someone important in his or her life? Here is what the Quiz really did for me.
In terms to Freedom what we need to know is that when we start to understand is what we want or what we choose is considered Freedom. However in reality, there is really no Freedom. We want to break rules but we can't, Cossie also discusses; 'The down side of rules.' Also just as we thought we should know about these important celebrities, sports people or the famous, we actually don't.

Walk the Talk- When Problems Arise

Facing a Problem, What Are we Going to Do?
Ozone holes, acid rain, deforestation and shrinking coral reefs crept up on us so easily and caused a huge environmental problem which generations will come to bear.

The problems do not only stop there... the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer, homeless, stranded, terrorism, corruption, illness spreading....

There are always going to be problems with the world. Problems at work, at home within our conscious minds or what we might not know, this may also be a problem...

The biggest problem in the world today though, and one that leads to a myriad of the rest of the world's problems is the lack of accountability or taking ownership ....

Selfishness can be mind boggling at times.

This is not only a major problem in the word today- as there is an excuse for almost everything. From being a responsible citizen, an accountable employee/ employer, selfless parent or understanding spouse. Selfishness plays a definite role in many cases.

Whether we are holding people accountable for their actions, what is important here is our instinctive need to 'justify' our selfishness.

Have your Reserved Justifications ?

1. Our grasp of our self-identity is yet to be defined, but we spend our lives trying to be true to ourselves. Although we try desperately to live up to a definition of ourselves, we have not yet produced. Many of us will never produce it. Some have this idea processed for them by those around them, who -again- spend time defining other people's lives instead of using that time for themselves.

2. We also tend to engage in rituals of mindless self-indulgence, even though we know (both deep down we realize we are compromising in many ways) that these are things we want no part of, things we know will hurt us. This maybe a common situation to relate with-- watching something on TV which that was so 'interesting' and noticed your Mother/ Father/ struggling to finish washing dishes??

3. Our thought processes work better when we are unsuspecting; when our minds have no expectations to live up to. Thus, revelations rarely come when you're trying for them.

What happens if we stop trying to live up to a definition of anything except what we want to be?

It seems that all the energy we spend trying to keep our lives simple and safe would go just as far in trying to make our lives both complex and fulfilling. The next time we jump at the chances to pursue these justifications we must take the ownership to live the lives that we've decided?

But there is a Solution... This blog is not promoting selfishness. It is about the need to help out individuals who feel  there is a need to Honor the Sense, HONOR YOUR SENSE. The many symptoms owing to Dis-honoring one's senses starts with the lack of motivation, lack in commitment, building up of daily stress, communication problems and failure to live the life we selfishly think we are hoarding to protect. According to ARBINGER my blame, my resentment and indifference diminishes with just ONE concept that will change our Lives.. Learn more about this concept.
